Pony Club provides opportunities for instruction and competition in English riding, horse sports, and horse management for children and young adults up to 25 years of age. The term "pony" reflects the age of the members, rather than the size of the mount. Horses and ponies of many different breeds, shapes, and sizes are seen in Pony Club activities. The United States is divided up into pony club Regions; each region has many clubs. Miami Valley Pony Club of the Midsouth Region has been in existence in the Greater Cincinnati area for many years, providing children with a wonderful education in horsemanship. As a member of MVPC, there are many benefits that you and your child can enjoy. MVPC provides instruction throughout the year, both mounted and unmounted. Our unmounted meetings cover things such as horse health care, tack and equipment use and care, bitting, grooming, etc. Mounted meetings provide the children with an opportunity to learn from a local instructor at a reduced rate. There are several excellent Cincinnati-area instructors who provide us with dressage, showjumping, and cross-country lessons. Weather permitting, we generally try to have 1 to 2 mounted meetings per month. Unmounted meetings are generally held in the winter months. The highlight of the year for many Pony Clubbers is the opportunity to go to “Mega Rally.” Rally is held at the Kentucky Horse Park in June and provides the kids competition in Dressage, Showjumping, Eventing, or Tetrathlon (running, swimming, jumping, shooting). Doing well at Mega-Rally can earn the kids an invitation to “Nationals” which is usually held in August at the Virginia Horse Park; but every third year is held in Kentucky, along with “Festival,” several days of educational opportunities (clinics, workshops, etc.). There are also two other rallies available during the year: Quiz Rally and Games Rally. Quiz Rally is when the kids come together to test themselves on their knowledge of horsie-related things. Games Rally is competition in mounted “games.” Both are enjoyed by lots of Pony Clubbers. MVPC also provides other activities during the year: a fall trail ride at Clippinger Field, Parents’ Meetings several times a year for planning and organization (Pony Club, on a local and National level, can’t be run without volunteer parents), a Christmas Party, and ratings (where the kids are tested on riding and knowledge and earn their Pony Club “ratings”). We hope you’ll join us!!
